I went to the Surgeon's Hall Museum this weekend. Here's a Trepannation drill. They had all the awesome tools at that museum... most of which made me quite uncomfortable. Apparently Trepanning, which is drilling a hole in the skull, is one of the oldest surgeries, it's not so stylish today, but it was used until the mid 19th century as a treatment for various mental disorders. There's something about drilling holes in one's skull to release pressure that is kind of poetic, nah?
