I was talking with Wilhelm about my engravings at the Frauenau Exhibit last weekend, and we got to thinking about "matting" them... like, keeping the image/engraved surface small, but making the actual object much larger, as if it were a matted print or photograph. This weekend, I saw some photographs that had been printed small, and matted on large black mats and framed behind glass, and I found the effect enchanting. The images were made to feel quite precious, and the reflections of the viewers always overlaid the photographs, which I found quite interesting. It got me thinking about combining the point engraving on black glass that I was doing before with the cameo engraved panels (maybe not black... some other dark colour that might not be so strong.)
