Powder Fusing

I fused powdered glass to sheet glass (System 96) to have blanks to test some sandblasting techniques. this post is on the fusing firing, future posts will be on the cold working tests.

The above picture is post firing, from top left to bottom right, the tiles are as follows:
1. Thick black powder on white sheet
2. Thin black powder on white sheet
3. Thin black powder on white sheet
4. Thick black powder on white sheet
5. Thin black powder on white sheet
6. Thick white powder on black sheet
7. Thin black powder on white sheet
8. Red powder on black powder on white sheet
9. Red powder on black sheet
10. White powder on red powder on black sheet
11. White powder on black sheet
12. Thin white powder on black sheet
13. Thick white powder on black sheet
14. Red powder on white sheet
15. Red powder on white sheet
16. Black sheet on white powder on black sheet

These were fired in kiln #2, with the following schedule:

1. 3:00 - 538
2. 3:01 - 793
3. 3:31 @ 793
4. 3:32 - 538
5. 4:00 - 516
6. 5:30 - 427
7. 10:00 - 50

The kiln was fired on Monday November 30th, and unloaded on Wednesday December 2nd.

Since the Elements are out on Kiln #2 in the bottom, I built the shelves higher than where the elements are missing. There were two shelves in the Kiln. The powder all fused fully, the texture is not particularly even, it's a little dappled, and on the ones where there was more than one layer of coloured powder the colour in the middle shows through a little. This might be remedied by sifting thicker layers of colour onto the sheet glass.

The pictures of this firing are in this album:
